Arbitration on CUPW’s grievance against Canada Post Corporation’s mandatory vaccination practice continued March 21 and 22, 2022. CUPW completed its cross-examination of CPC’s expert witness which we began during the last hearing (held in February). CUPW also cross-examined CPC’s main material witness. Witness examinations are now over, and the parties will exchange written submissions this week.

The deadline to apply is April 1st. The Building the Power to Win campaign was launched in February 2021 and is moving at a good pace to continue CUPW’s preparation for mass education and mobilizing in view of the next round of bargaining. In the coming weeks, CUPW will set up a steering committee made up of two members per region, and they will set down the framework to further our efforts. We are at a critical juncture. Fill out this application form in order to be considered for selection as a member of the steering committee.

FURTHER REVISED - After having to cancel the Union Education Program (UEP) that was scheduled for October 2020 until March 2021, we are re-launching the UEP, in the hopes that the pandemic will be behind us and public health regulations will have been lifted. We have used this hiatus to revamp the curriculum so that it better reflects the context and issues of our post-pandemic world.

CUPW is currently accepting applications for the position of External Organizer for the Pacific and Central Regions. We will be hiring organizers from across the country to help bring more workers into our union and to share in the benefits that unionized workers enjoy. The completed application must be received by April 4th, 2022.

During its meeting last week, the National Executive Board (NEB) discussed the framework required to achieve an hourly rate for RSMCs and reviewed applications from members who wish to join the RSMC Hourly Rate Committee. The NEB decided to set up two committees: a working committee and a steering committee.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

OTTAWA - Today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will continue to present its case during two days of hearings at the Industrial Inquiry Commission in Ottawa.

On February 19 and 20, the second round of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission will be held in Ottawa. The format for these hearings will be similar to the first. Commissioner Kaplan has asked both CUPW and Canada Post to provide him with written submissions before the hearings begin.

CUPW is looking for members who are interested in being part of the Regional Internal Organizing Committee During the last convention, the Regional Internal Organizing Committees were formalized as per clause 4.15 of the National Constitution, with a mandate to, among other things, promote the benefits of organizing by developing materials and tools that facilitate work floor mobilization and to identify effective actions in the continued fight for worker rights.
