Volume 41, Number 1, March 2013 - CUPW members in both the urban and rural bargaining units have ratified their respective collective agreements. Both agreements were achieved only after lengthy negotiations. In the case of the urban unit, the settlement was negotiated as part of the final offer selection process established pursuant to the back-to-work legislation imposed by the Harper government. The rural agreement was reached as part of a negotiated settlement without government intervention, but the possibility of back-to-work legislation was a factor in the union’s decision to recommend acceptance.

APPLICATIONS FOR CERTIFICATIONS - TNT Express The certification application of TNT Express - Ottawa is facing a lot of challenges from the employer and now we know why. United Parcel Service (UPS) will pay $6.85 billion for Dutch peer TNT Express in a deal making the world's largest package delivery company the market leader in Europe. UPS will also get access to TNT's stronger networks in the fast-growing Asian and Latin American markets, bringing the U.S. company's global sales up to over 45 billion euros.

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

OTTAWA - Today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will continue to present its case during two days of hearings at the Industrial Inquiry Commission in Ottawa.

On February 19 and 20, the second round of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission will be held in Ottawa. The format for these hearings will be similar to the first. Commissioner Kaplan has asked both CUPW and Canada Post to provide him with written submissions before the hearings begin.

CUPW is looking for members who are interested in being part of the Regional Internal Organizing Committee During the last convention, the Regional Internal Organizing Committees were formalized as per clause 4.15 of the National Constitution, with a mandate to, among other things, promote the benefits of organizing by developing materials and tools that facilitate work floor mobilization and to identify effective actions in the continued fight for worker rights.
