RE: Support for Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Members

Dear Mr. Ettinger,

On behalf of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour which represents over 40,000 unionized workers from Private and Public sector unions. I write to express our full solidarity with the members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) in their ongoing struggle for fair treatment, safe working conditions, and strong public postal services.

Postal workers have been on the front lines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, delivering essential services under challenging circumstances. They deserve respect and dignity on the job—not cuts to service, not precarious working conditions, and not erosion of their rights at the bargaining table.

We are particularly concerned by Canada Post's delays in negotiations, contracting out of delivery services, unsafe workloads, unfair treatment of rural and suburban mail carriers (RSMCs) and many other issues. These actions undermine not only the workers who keep our postal system running but also the broader public who rely on accessible, reliable, and publicly delivered postal services.

We urge Canada Post Corporation to return to the bargaining table in good faith and negotiate a fair contract that reflects the value and contributions of CUPW members. Our Federation stands firmly behind CUPW’s efforts to protect good jobs, defend public services, and ensure workplace health and safety.

We will continue to mobilize in support of postal workers and to raise our voices against any attempt to diminish their rights or privatize our postal service. Canada Post must live up to its mandate as a public institution—one that puts workers and communities first.

In solidarity,

Chris Watson
