The Union has been actively pursuing confirmation from Canada Post that it will respect the post-retirement benefits entitlements of retiring members. The Union was looking to confirm that members who retire will be eligible for post-retirement benefits in the event that the retirement would occur during a labour disruption.
On May 2, 2025, via an email from Labour Relations, the Corporation confirmed that employees who retire during the period of the labour disruption will be permitted to initiate their post-retirement benefits as they would have in the absence of the labour disruption, provided they meet all applicable eligibility criteria for such benefits.
The Union believes this confirmation provides its members with the assurance that they will not be unjustly penalized in the situation described above. This should help alleviate any anxiety and uncertainty with such a life-changing decision.
