Dear Mr. Chopra:
We were shocked to discover that Canada Post Corporation (CPC) conducted a secret four-year study on postal banking, which seems to indicate that adding financial services would financially benefit the corporation.
As you know, Blacklock's Reporter obtained a copy of this document through an Access to Information request, although 701 of 811 pages were redacted.
Canada Post's paper on postal banking appears to back up the findings of two recent studies, one by CUPW and the other by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. It suggests that there is significant potential to add financial services and keep the public postal service self-sufficient. That is, it indicates that there are viable alternatives to the postal cuts and rate increases announced on December 11, 2013.
In the interests of transparency and accountability, CUPW would like to request the full study. We believe and we hope you agree that, as a public institution, Canada Post has an obligation to be transparent and accountable.
Yours truly,
Gayle Bossenberry
