If you work in a sector that is regulated by a province or territory, the legislation that governs your work will differ depending upon the location the workplace. Members in non-federal workplaces can find information on this page that will help explain your rights at work, your right to refuse unsafe work, and province and territory specific information on the COVID-19 crisis. We have also included additional information and resources specific to some private sector bargaining units. If you work in a non-federal sector, your right to refuse unsafe work will be governed by provincial or territorial health and safety legislation. It is important to note that the procedure to refuse is not be exactly the same across the provinces and territories.
We strongly encourage members in private sector bargaining units to contact your CUPW local for guidance on the right to refuse.

The Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit provides $300 a week to eligible workers who are unable to work due to a temporary local lockdown anytime between October 24, 2021 and May 7, 2022.
The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit provides $500 ($450 after taxes withheld) per week for up to a maximum of six weeks, for workers who:
