Pagans and witches celebrate the Winter Solstice or Yule as a way to honour the natural cycles of our planetary home. It is a time to be grateful for the good things we have, to recommit to the work that is needed ahead, to meditate on our humanity and compassion, to give.
All over the world, different cultures celebrate Solstice. This year, it takes place on Thursday, December 21st.
We celebrate the coming of the light. We can have a fire as a symbol of this light and warmth, or we can light candles. We feast with our loved ones. We give and receive gifts.
Solstice represents a time of renewal and transformation. We are reminded of the cycles of life. We are also reminded that even in the darkest times, there is always the possibility of light and change.
This year, it is especially important to reflect on this and to set an intention for peace and justice for all people. Let us remember that we are all connected.
CUPW brothers, sisters and friends understand what it means to stand up for each other, to stand together and to make a stand for justice. Let us pledge to define our lives by solidarity. It is needed more than ever.
Happy Solstice!
In Solidarity,
