We Need a Mandate for Action

After months of fruitless negotiations, Canada Post started the clock ticking on us by applying for conciliation. This means we now have to take a vote on whether or not to take job action.

A strong strike vote means that our negotiating committee can push harder at the bargaining table. It means that we know the full force of our membership, 50,000 strong, is behind us as we press the employer to be reasonable and consider our demands.

Our demands are fair.

• We want equality for RSMCs.
• We want more full-time permanent jobs
• We want the Corporation to consider all its options (like postal banking) before it considers any more cuts.
• We want to expand services.
• We want our sick days.
• We want decent pensions to be able to retire with dignity.

We will not take concessions. We will not concede anything more to these Harper-era managers. We need to come out in numbers and vote to strike so that our collective strength is clear.

That is why I am asking you to give your Union a strong mandate for action by exercising your democratic vote as a CUPW member.

The National Executive Board has unanimously voted to hold a strike vote for both Urban and RSMC bargaining units. These will be held at the end of May and throughout the month of June across the country. More details are coming. Check with your Local and sign up for our e-digest for more information.

Everywhere, your Sisters and Brothers will be voting with you. The best way to avoid a strike is to make sure our collective voice is powerful and that the employer knows we are ready to take action.
