Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Arbitration for the St. John’s local “Warford 30” begins Thursday, June 13th. We are organizing a black t-shirt day and messages of solidarity on June 13th to support the members who are currently working with 5-day suspensions and final warnings on their files.

On January 16th, workers in the St. John’s letter carrier depot had enough of the employer’s bullying and weaponization of health and safety. There was no winning: interviews for reporting injuries, interviews for not reporting injuries, and an interview for reporting a tripping incident that resulted in no lost time.

The workers gathered outside of the interview room to use their right to complain under article 9.07 about these repeated instances of claim suppression and bullying. Instead of listening to their concerns, the employers suspended all 30 letter carriers involved, issuing 5-day suspensions with final warnings.

The name “The Warford 30” came from the workers, naming themselves after a new manager in the depot who oversaw the massive overreaction by the corporation to workers who just wanted to have their complaints heard.

In solidarity,
