CUPW is pleased to welcome Ebus drivers in Kamloops and Vancouver to our Union!

Many of these new members are former Greyhound bus drivers who found work with Ebus after Greyhound left Western Canada in 2018.  These workers are being paid the same rate as they were in 2016, when they were represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union. The skyrocketing cost of living in BC has made it difficult for workers to make ends meet.

These drivers are highly skilled, navigating the Coquihalla Pass, one of the worst roads for winter driving in Canada. Since they operate in small communities, they also take on customer service responsibilities, since many of the pick-up locations are too small to employ ticketing agents. They deal with passenger medical emergencies and unruly passengers, and wash and safety check buses. They are far from just drivers.

Ebus is part of the Pacific Western Transit group of companies, the biggest private bus company in Canada. With the exit of Greyhound and the lack of service from Via Rail, Ebus is often the only intercity transportation option for B.C. residents who do not have a vehicle.

With our negotiating committee ready to get to work, we look forward to a first collective agreement that addresses wages scheduling, forced overtime, and pay for all hours worked.

We are proud to welcome these members and want to let them know that they have the full support of all CUPW members across the country.

In Solidarity,

Jody Hutton
