Sisters, Brothers, Friends:
The CUPW child care fund has been working with communities across Canada to create affordable, high quality non profit and public child care for nearly 30 years. From the beginning, the push for universal child care has been interwoven in the development of child care projects and the funding of research that informs and shapes policy.
Stand on Guard for Child Care
“There is abundant economic evidence, from Canada and internationally, that the provision of accessible, affordable, high-quality ELCC services generates a wide range of economic, social and fiscal benefits that enhance the well-being of society over a long-time frame”
Powering Growth report by: Dr. Jim Stanford
As outlined in the CUPW constitution:
CUPW recognizes that public services enhance the quality of people’ lives and are fundamental to the creation of societies that are equal, prosperous, and democratic. When public services are universally available, they nourish and enrich our lives and promote solidarity within our communities.
Child care advocates across the country are urging governments to strengthen and expand Canada’s $10aDay child care plan which was initially introduced in 2021. Recently, the federal government reached an early learning and child care extension agreement with 11 out of 13 provinces and territories. This includes an additional investment of 36.8 billion to create more child care spaces, reduce waitlists and meet the demand for qualified early childhood educators to support the growth of this program.
Morna Ballantyne, Executive Director of Child Care Now states “at a time of economic uncertainty, when every other household expense is going up, affordable child care is providing needed financial relief to families”
We proudly stand in support of the $10aDay plan and we ask you to take a moment to visit Child Care Now, where you can stay informed and access Stand on Guard for Child Care campaign materials. Together we can demonstrate strong public support.
